Market Messages

Market Messages

Submit and manage market messages for SIP and RGMA flows.

Market Messages allow you to generate and submit industry-standard SIP (Service Introduction Plans) and RGMA (Retail Gas Market Arrangement) files to market participants. The system automatically validates, processes, and tracks your submissions.

Overview

The Market Messages module handles:

  • SIP Flows - Service introduction plans for electricity connections
  • RGMA Flows - Gas market messaging for meter installations and readings
  • ONJOB Files - Automated generation and submission
  • Status Tracking - Real-time visibility of message processing
  • Error Resolution - Tools to identify and fix failed messages

Accessing Market Messages

  1. Go to Market Messages in the top navigation
  2. Select between Market Messages (files view) or Appointed Meter Points (appointments view)

The Market Messages section shows all generated flows and their current status.

Understanding Flow Status

Each market message has a status indicating its progress through the submission pipeline:

StatusMeaningAction Required
PendingQueued for generationNone - processing will begin automatically
ProcessingCurrently being generatedNone - wait for completion
ReadyGenerated and awaiting submissionReview and submit if automatic submission is disabled
SentSuccessfully submitted to marketNone - message delivered
SuccessConfirmed receipt by market participantNone - process complete
FailSubmission failed or rejectedReview error details and resubmit

Creating Market Messages from Jobs

Market messages are automatically triggered when jobs meet specific criteria:

For SIP Messages

  1. Complete a relevant job type (e.g., meter installation, service connection)
  2. Ensure required worksheet data is filled (MPRN, customer details, readings)
  3. Submit the job for completion
  4. The system generates SIP files automatically

For RGMA Messages

  1. Complete gas-related jobs (meter installation, exchange, removal)
  2. Fill mandatory RGMA fields in worksheets
  3. Mark job as complete
  4. ONJOB files generate within minutes

Viewing Market Message Details

To view details for a specific message:

  1. Go to Market Messages
  2. Locate your message in the list
  3. Click View Details to see:
    • Flow type and scenario
    • Current status
    • Generated flows (D0001, D0002, etc.)
    • Validation errors (if any)
    • Submission history

Each flow shows its individual status with color-coded badges:

  • Green - Success/Sent
  • Amber - Pending/Ready
  • Red - Failed
  • Blue - Processing/Validating

Viewing on Job Summary

Market message status is also visible on individual job pages:

  1. Open any job with associated market messages
  2. Scroll to the Market Messages Status section
  3. View:
    • Overall status badge
    • Flow category and scenario
    • List of generated flows
    • Quick link to full details

Click View Details to navigate to the full market messages view for that job.

Resolving Failed Messages

When a message fails, follow these steps to diagnose and fix:

1. Identify the Error

  1. Go to Market Messages
  2. Filter by status: Failed
  3. Click View Details on the failed message
  4. Review error messages shown for each failed flow

Common errors include:

  • Missing data - Required worksheet fields not completed
  • Invalid MPRN - Meter point reference number format incorrect
  • Validation failure - Data doesn't meet market rules
  • Network timeout - Temporary communication issue

2. Correct the Source Data

Failed messages usually require updating the source job:

  1. Navigate back to the originating job
  2. Edit the relevant worksheet
  3. Correct missing or invalid data
  4. Save changes

3. Regenerate the Message

After correcting data:

  1. Return to Market Messages
  2. Locate the failed message
  3. Click Regenerate or Resubmit (if available)
  4. Monitor the new submission status

If regeneration is not available, completing a new job may be necessary.

Appointed Meter Points

The Appointed Meter Points tab shows meter points currently assigned to your organization:

  1. Switch to the Appointed Meter Points tab
  2. View all active meter point registrations
  3. See:
    • MPRN/MPAN numbers
    • Customer details
    • Appointment status
    • Associated jobs

Use this view to verify your organization is correctly registered for specific meter points before generating market messages.

Uploading Manual Market Messages

In some cases, you may need to upload manually created market messages:

  1. Go to Market Messages
  2. Click Upload in the header
  3. Select your file (XML or formatted text)
  4. Confirm the upload
  5. The system validates and queues for submission

Manual uploads follow the same status workflow as automatically generated messages.

Best Practices

  • Complete all required fields - Ensure worksheets are fully filled before marking jobs complete
  • Verify MPRNs - Double-check meter point reference numbers for accuracy
  • Monitor status regularly - Check for failed messages daily
  • Act on failures promptly - Address errors within 24 hours to avoid market compliance issues
  • Keep customer data current - Update customer details when changes occur

Automatic vs Manual Submission

Depending on your team configuration:

  • Automatic submission - Messages submit immediately upon successful generation
  • Manual approval - Messages remain in "Ready" status until manually released

Check with your team administrator to understand your team's submission workflow.
